If You Want a Great Campaign, The Players Must Care About Your NPC’s

If you want a great campaign, the kind you and your friends talk about for decades afterword, then your players must care about your NPC’s. They must think of them almost as real people. What do I mean by this?

Do your players say, “I hate that guy.” And mean it?

Do your players say, “We must get revenge for his (an NPC) death,” and mean it?

Do your players say, “I miss (NPC’s name),” And mean it?

If they don’t, you might have a good campaign going but you definitely do not have a great campaign.

The emotional impact that your NPC’s have on the players, not their characters, the players, is one of the critical differences between a good campaign and a great campaign.
