The greatest of the golden age swords-and-sorcery prose-poets, in my opinion. His worlds are richly limned with terrible beauty and enriched with an economy of words that are eloquent in their rich and blood-hued colours, world building non pareil. Zothique, Hyperborea, Poseidonis, Xiccarph, each is a magnificently rich setting. A worthy word-weaver and scop to stand shield wall strong alongside R.E. Howard, Leiber, Lovecraft Moorcock, Vance.
Just finished reading Xeethra, one of his Zothique stories last night. Happy Birthday CAS.

Oh, thanks for the reminder! I’ll read one of his novel this evening and raise a toast.
