I used to have an annoying pop up to encourage readers to join my newsletter.
I get irritated when I go on a blog or website and have to close the damn pop-up urging me to join their newsletter every time I visit.
I assume you do to. So I got rid of the pop up. As a result, the rate I get new subscribers to my monthly newsletter has slowed WAY down.
I’ve thought about how to get more subscribers to my newsletter without being a pest.
I decided that posting about it on the blog every now and again is the best approach.
You’re probably thinking, “A newsletter is just how Travis gets my email to sell me stuff.”
It’s true. The newsletter is a way to market Hogwater and other products I will publish in the future. However, I’m not one of those newsletter writers who only writes about their new thing. It’s rare that I mention what I have for sale.
In exchange for letting me tell you about a product I have for sale, you get access to a massive pile of ideas, game mastering tools, and suggestions to make your gaming better. Lot’s of free stuff in exchange for letting me tell you about something I think will be useful to you if you buy it seems like a good trade.
Most months, I give you a music or book recommendation and an essay about classic fantasy adventure gaming. Sometimes I share a random table, template, or other tool I use in my home games.
There is an extensive archive of those essays and resources. Subscribers receive a link to the archive that they can access at their leisure. Only a few items in the archive has ever appeared on the blog. If you want that stuff, its the best way to get it.
