The correct answer to general questions about games is, “It depends.”
What’s the best game?
It depends. Board? Card? RPG? Who’s playing? Have they played RPG’s before? What kind? How old are they?
What’s your favorite game?
It depends. What genre? Which group of players? One shot or campaign?
How do you write an adventure?
It depends. Convention game? Home game? One shot? On going campaign? Open table? New players? Old pros?
Good gaming experiences are dependent on a number of variables. Some concepts and methods are broadly applicable, others are very specific. I would run B/X D&D for just about anyone because I can tailor it to the group sitting in front me on the fly. I would love to run an Amber Diceless Roleplay campaign but I would only do that for a group with a very specific set of characteristics.

It’s re-blog Tuesday! I have a number of old posts worth reading but have been forgotten. They were written years before anyone was paying attention to my blog and are buried in the archive.
This one is a short post from 2019 where I state the first two words I think of when answering questions about tabletop role-playing games, “It depends.”
