I Don’t Care What Gary Intended

Every now and again, I’ll see someone write something about how a certain rule interpretation or style of play was not what Gary intended.

I don’t care.

Having some understanding about what was intended tells me what Gary wanted when he played his game. That’s nice as far as it goes. It is helpful to have context when you are tinkering with a game but Gary was a different person, who had different experiences and believed different things. I’m not Gary. I want what I want from my gaming experience. As much as I enjoy the game Gary and Dave came up with. I’m not going to  decide that playing it their way, whatever that might mean, is the only right way to play.

That is a ludicrous notion.
